A message from H.E. Fiona McKergow, Australian High Commissioner to the Republic of Cyprus

I am delighted to be here in Cyprus.

I look forward to learning about the diverse culture and history of Cyprus, and exploring all the corners and hidden delights that make up this unique country.

My family and I have already been struck by the warmth and generosity of spirit of so many Cypriots, including your fellow country men and women that have chosen to live in Australia.

Cyprus and Australia share many common interests in the international arena, including how to address the real world impacts of climate change, maritime pollution and the economic consequences of disrupted supply chains on island nations.

My background experience in agricultural trade, environmental management, climate change policy and conflict-driven humanitarian crises provides me with a strong understanding of the real-world impacts that Cyprus faces in this dynamic region, but I also believe Australian and Cyprus can continue to learn from each other in many domains.

I have a strong interest in supporting the Australian High Commission’s effort to promote diverse and inclusive conversations that reflect all facets of this modern democratic society, including engaging with the many women in leadership roles.

I’d also like to give a shout out to all those Australians and friends of Australia in Cyprus whom I look forward to meeting during my time on this wonderful island.

Fiona McKergow, High Commissioner
